Twitter Inc temporarily closed its offices on Friday after telling employees they were would be informed by the email later in a day about whethers they are being laid off.

The moves follow the week of a uncertainty about the company’s futures under new owner Elon Musk.

The social media company said in an email to his staff it would tell them at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Friday (12 p.m. EDT/1600 GMT) about a staff cuts.

“In efforts place Twitter on healthy paths and we go a through difficult process reducing our global workforces on a Friday,” said the email sents on Thursday.

Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, is looking to cut around 3,700 Twitter staff, or about the half of workforce, as he seeks to slash costs and impose the demanding new work ethic, according to internal plan reviewed by Reuter on this week.
