KLDR is a new FM radio station broadcasting from Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. In this interview with the KLDR CEO, we learn about the station’s objectives and plans for the future. KLDR: What is your company’s history?

KLDR was founded in 2014 by a team of passionate entrepreneurs with a shared goal: to change the music industry and make it more accessible and affordable for everyone.

What are your company’s core values and how do they influence your business decisions?
At KLDR, our core values are transparency, accessibility, affordability and quality. We believe that these values are essential to creating an inclusive music industry for everyone. This is why we make our music available for free, offer affordable subscriptions, and work hard to ensure that all of our content is of the highest quality.

KLDR: How has your company grown over the years?

Since its inception in 2013, KLDR Media Company has continued to grow at an exponential rate. From a team of two founders, the company now employs over 100 individuals and operates out of five locations across Kuala Lumpur.

In terms of content production, KLDR has diversified its portfolio to include both lifestyle and entertainment content. In particular, the network has made a name for itself with its award-winning documentary series ‘My Life As …’ which features frank and open conversations with celebrities from all walks of life.

Looking ahead, KLDR is committed to expanding its reach beyond Malaysia by expanding into new markets across Asia Pacific and Europe. With a strong editorial foundation and continued investment in technology, the KLDR team is poised for even more success in the years to come.

KLDR: What are your future plans for the company?

KLDR is one of Malaysia’s leading radio stations. The company has been around since the early 1950s and it currently broadcasts in six languages. KLDR is also one of the few private radio stations in Malaysia.

The CEO of KLDR, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, recently sat down with me to talk about the company’s future plans. He says that KLDR is planning to expand its programming and reach even more listeners. Dr Rais Yatim also says that KLDR is looking to partner with other media outlets in order to create a synergistic relationship between the two companies.

Overall, Dr Rais Yatim says that he is happy with the direction of KLDR and he believes that the company will continue to flourish in the years to come.

KLDR: What makes your company unique compared to others in the radio industry?

KLDR is unique because of its focus on alternative music and independent artists. We pride ourselves on being the go-to source for alternative music in the Kansas City area. Our programming is eclectic and always changing, which keeps our listeners engaged. We also offer our listeners the opportunity to submit their own music for airplay, which provides even more exposure for local artists.

KLDR: What are the challenges you face as a radio company?

When it comes to radio, KLDR is a company that has faced many challenges. While it started out as a small station in the 1990s, KLDR has since experienced a lot of growth. KLDR currently operates six FM stations and one AM station in the Philippines.

One of the biggest challenges that KLDR faces is its reliance on advertising revenue. This is because while the overall market for radio is growing, advertising revenue continues to decline. In order to compensate for this, KLDR has developed other sources of income such as music programming, sponsorships, and charging listeners for access to its online content.

Another challenge that KLDR has faced is its competition from other media platforms such as television and the internet. This has made it difficult for KLDR to establish itself as a leading radio station in the Philippines. However, with continued effort and innovation, KLDR is confident that it can overcome these challenges and continue to serve its audience well.

KLDR: What advice would you give to other small businesses looking to expand?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the best advice for small businesses expansion will vary depending on the particulars of your company and situation. However, some general advice that may be useful include:

1) Be aware of your company’s strengths and focus on continuing to capitalize on them. Don’t try to expand into areas where you don’t have a strong presence or aren’t particularly skilled at.
2) Establish a well-defined business plan and track actual progress against that plan. This will help you stay disciplined and motivated as you grow.
3) Make sure you have adequate resources available to you – both financial and human – to support your growth. This includes having the necessary infrastructure in place (such as office space, marketing tools, etc.), as well as talented personnel who are able to execute on your plans.
4) Be prepared to make significant changes to your operation as your company grows – this is something that is often unavoidable. Maintaining a positive attitude and maintaining focus on the goals of your organization are important during these transitions.
